Strawberry 'Albion'
A popular variety, Fragaria x ananassa ‘Albion’ (Strawberry) is a day neutral variety. It is not affected by day length, allowing for continuous fruiting from late spring until first frost – anytime temperatures range between 35-85ºF (0-29ºC). Five-petaled white flowers adorned with yellow centers give way to long, conical, rich red berries of superior flavor. Resistant to verticillium wilt, Phytophthora crown rot, and relatively resistant to anthracnose crown rot. May remain evergreen in frost-free areas.
A strawberry patch is ravishing with its small mounds of fresh, green, pleated leaves which hide dangling, ruby-red fruits begging to be picked and enjoyed. This strawberry can be successfully grown in a container too. Excellent for pie, fresh eating and jams.
Strawberry varieties are grouped by fruiting habit—June-bearing, everbearing, and day-neutral. Within June-bearing types, cultivars are described as early, midseason, or late. Planting a mix—e.g., early/mid/late June-bearers plus a day-neutral—will extend your harvest so you enjoy fresh strawberries for much longer.
