Amethyst Meadow Squill, Dalmatian Scilla, Scilla amethystina, Scilla pratensis
Native to Croatia, award-winning Scilla litardierei (Amethyst Meadow Squill) is a clump-forming, bulbous perennial with up to 5 narrowly strap-shaped, semi-erect, basal leaves. In late spring to early summer, dense pyramidal spikes packed with tiny, star-shaped, violet-blue flowers can be enjoyed. They last for about 3 weeks. A great naturalizer, Amethyst Meadow Squill multiplies and comes back year after year. Easy to grow, this is a lovely and useful plant that begins to bloom when there is often a lull in flowering between the spring bulbs and the summer perennials.
