Lanceleaf Coreopsis, Lance-leaved Coreopsis, Lanceleaf Tickseed, Sand Coreopsis, Coreopsis crassifolia, Coreopsis heterogyna, Coreopsis lanceolata var. villosa
Native to North America, Coreopsis lanceolata (Lanceleaf Tickseed) is an upright herbaceous perennial boasting a profusion of daisy-like bright yellow flowers, up to 2 in. across (5 cm), adorned with flat yellow center disks. Blooming from late spring to midsummer, each blossom features 8 yellow rays, toothed at their tips. They are borne singly atop slender, erect stems and rise above a basal tuft of narrow, hairy, lance-shaped leaves. Their nectar and pollen attracts various beneficial pollinators including butterflies, skippers, moths, bees, wasps and beetles. Tolerant of heat, humidity and drought, this Coreopsis is a good garden performer. It grows in small clumps but forms extensive colonies. Perfect for wildflower gardens, prairies and meadows.
Lanceleaf coreopsis is a wildlife friendly perennial that blooms for months, drawing bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects with its nectar rich yellow flowers. Goldfinches and other small birds eat the seed heads, especially if left standing. Its dense growth also offers shelter for beneficial insects and ground dwelling wildlife.
