Alpine Mountainbalm, Coyote Mint, Mountain Monardella, Mountain Pennyroyal
Monardella odoratissima (Mountain Monardella) is an upright to sprawling perennial with sturdy and erect leafy stems bearing opposite, lance-shaped leaves, 2 in. long (5 cm). Stems and leaves may be light green to dark gray in color, and they usually have a sparse covering of short hairs. The leaves are highly fragrant, releasing a strongly minty scent when the plant is touched. In early to late summer, they are topped by a profusion of small, white, pale pink to light bluish-purple flowers in dense spherical flower heads, 1 in. wide (2.5 cm). The blossoms are attractive to insects, especially bees and butterflies. Mountain Monardella is easy to grow and maintain and is perfect for rock gardens.
