Adding pastel color to the garden, Collomia grandiflora (Large Flowered Collomia) is a charming annual wildflower boasting ravishing clusters tightly packed with pale peach to white flowers from mid-spring to mid-summer. Each tubular flower, 1 in. wide (2.5 cm), features 5 curving petals and anthers tipped with blue pollen – for a lovely contrast. Bees collect the bright blue pollen from the blossoms. The flowers are borne on erect, hairy, or fuzzy stems clad with long, lance-shaped leaves. They give way to capsules that contain sticky seeds. This plant spreads by reseeding itself and keeps a presence in the garden. Great as a cut flower.
