Lemon 'Eureka Pink Variegated', Eureka Pink Variegated Lemon, Pink Lemonade Lemon
Citrus x limon ‘Eureka Pink Variegated’, also known as the Pink Lemonade Lemon or Variegated Eureka Lemon, is a stunning cultivar of the classic Eureka lemon tree. It is cherished for its eye-catching green-and-cream variegated leaves, pink-blushed new growth, and unique pink-fleshed lemons with striped rinds. This tree offers the same tart flavor and culinary versatility of a traditional lemon, with added ornamental appeal. A perfect choice for containers, patios, and edible gardens, especially in warm climates.
The Eureka Pink Variegated lemon is an evergreen citrus tree in the Rutaceae family, related to other citrus species such as grapefruit, mandarin, pomelo, citron, calamansi, and kumquat. It features pink-blushed fruit when young, maturing to yellow with green stripes. The fruit’s interior is light pink, juicy, and acidic—perfect for culinary use.
Discovered as a bud mutation of the standard Eureka lemon in California in the 1930s, this variety remains popular in California, Florida, and other warm growing regions.
It has an upright, moderately open habit. Though it may have some thorns, its ornamental foliage and vibrant fruit make it a favorite for edible landscaping. It bears fruit year-round in mild climates.
Mature trees reach 8–15 feet (2.4 to 4.5 meters) tall and 6–10 feet (1.8 to3 meters) wide. In pots, size can be kept more compact with pruning and repotting.
Fragrant white blossoms, sometimes tinged with pink, bloom in clusters. Their sweet scent attracts pollinators and adds to the tree’s decorative value.
Pink Variegated Eureka lemons bloom and fruit nearly continuously, with peaks in spring and summer.
The lemons are oblong with a distinctive yellow-and-green-striped rind. When sliced open, they reveal a light pink pulp that is juicy and tart. Fruit begins developing at a young age and appears in abundance.
Leaves are glossy, variegated with creamy yellow margins and dark green centers. New foliage may flush with pink tones, providing year-round interest.
Suitable for USDA zones 9–11. Can be grown indoors in containers in cooler climates, provided it receives ample sunlight and protection from cold drafts.
As with all citrus plants, the leaves and peel may be toxic to pets if ingested. Exercise caution around cats and dogs.

Citrus x limon ‘Eureka Pink Variegated’ is nutritionally comparable to standard Eureka lemons. It is low in calories and a rich source of vitamin C, dietary fiber, and antioxidants. The pink color of the flesh comes from natural lycopene pigments, which do not significantly alter the nutritional content. Juice and zest from this variety are widely appreciated for their vibrant flavor and health-supportive properties.

Provide full sun—6 to 8 hours of direct light daily. Indoors, place near a sunny, south-facing window or use grow lights.
Use well-drained, sandy loam with a slightly acidic pH between 5.5 and 6.5. Avoid compacted or soggy soils.
Keep soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. In containers, water more frequently and ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot.
Feed with a balanced citrus fertilizer high in nitrogen and micronutrients like iron and zinc every 6–8 weeks during the growing season.
Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to shape the tree and remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Remove suckers below the graft union.
USDA zones 9–11. Protect from frost. In cooler zones, grow in a pot and move indoors in winter.
Self-pollinating. Outdoor trees benefit from bee activity. Indoor trees may need gentle hand-pollination with a soft brush.
Grow in a large container with drainage holes. Use citrus potting soil. Repot every 2–3 years to prevent root binding and replenish nutrients.
Lemons ripen 6 to 9 months after flowering. They are ready when fully yellow on the outside and give slightly when gently squeezed. Flesh inside is pink when mature.

Not recommended. Seedlings may not be true to type and take many years to fruit. Use cuttings or grafting for best results.
Aphids: Cause leaf curling and honeydew that leads to sooty mold.
Citrus Leafminers: Larvae tunnel through new leaves, reducing photosynthesis.
Spider Mites: Cause stippling and webbing on leaves.
Whiteflies: Gather on undersides of leaves and secrete honeydew.
Scale Insects: Suck plant sap and weaken growth.
Mealybugs: Soft-bodied insects that excrete sticky residue and attract ants.
Citrus Canker: Causes lesions on fruit and leaves. Spread by wind and rain.
Greasy Spot: Fungal leaf spot that leads to defoliation.
Sooty Mold: Black fungus that grows on pest honeydew.
Root Rot (Phytophthora): Caused by poorly drained soil. Symptoms include yellowing and dieback.
Citrus Greening (HLB): A bacterial disease causing bitter, deformed fruit and eventual tree death. Spread by the Asian citrus psyllid.
