Harvest Brodiaea, Elegant Cluster-Lily, Elegant Clusterlily
Rewarding and easy care, Brodiaea elegans (Elegant Cluster-Lily) is a cormous perennial boasting loose umbels of violet or blue-violet, funnel-shaped flowers from late spring to mid-summer. The flowers feature six curving petals, white pointed staminodes (sterile stamens), and fertile stamens topped with large anthers. Rising on stout leafless stalks, they provide a charming display for quite a while before the plant goes dormant in summer. The foliage of narrow leaves emerges in late winter and dies back as the flowers appear. Easy to grow, undemanding, drought-tolerant, beautiful, and adaptable, this sweet little cluster-lily makes a lovely garden addition. Elegant Cluster-Lily is native to the mountain ranges of California and Oregon, where it grows in dry to moist meadows and open woods.
