Selinum wallichianum (Milk Parsley)

Highly praised by most gardeners, Selinum wallichianum (Milk Parsley) is a clump-forming perennial with a profusion of large, flattened umbels composed of tiny, star-shaped, white flowers. Sitting atop strong ribbed red stems, they float above a pretty dome-shaped mound of large, intricately divided, emerald-green leaves. Blooming over an extremely long flowering period, from mid-summer until fall, Milk Parsley is easy to grow, adaptable, and requires very little care. A favorite of designers, it adds unmatched elegance to the garden as an isolated specimen or placed among other herbaceous plants. Selinum wallichianum has a reputation for reliability and longevity.

• Vigorously growing up to 3-6 ft. high (90-180 cm) and spreading up to 24 in. (60 cm), Milk Parsley is an ideal addition to beds and borders, prairie plantings, and wildflower gardens.
• Performs best in full sun or part shade, in moist, well-drained soils. It thrives in heavy clay but does best where the drainage is sharpest. It appreciates a humus-rich mulch but needs no other attention. Staking is unnecessary even in an exposed site.
• Remove faded flowerheads and cut back dying foliage in the fall.
• Propagate by seed in pots in a cold frame as soon as the seed is ripe; prick out into deep containers to avoid tap root damage. Propagate by division in early spring but take care as it resents disturbance
