Hardy, Hamamelis ‘Brevipetala’ (Witch Hazel) is a deciduous shrub or small tree of upright when young, becoming rounded with age. It boasts dense clusters of fragrant, frost-proof, rich orange-yellow flowers in late winter and early spring. Rich with a strong and spicy scent, each flower consists of narrow, crinkled, strap-shaped petals with red-purple calyces. The oval dark green leaves turn shades of yellow and orange in fall. Introduced in 1935, this fine winter-flowering shrub is a charming hybrid cross between Hamamelis mollis and Hamamelis vernalis.
